Katy Perry's 'Witness: The Tour' electrifies crowd with vibrant, dynamic stage production

PITTSBURGH — Katy Perry may no longer be a whimsical, bubbly, cupcake-eating pop artist, but she is still a superstar who puts on superstar productions.

She still has that iconic goofiness, but now her music and performances are more sensitive.

In the third stop on her “Witness: The Tour” on Friday at PPG Paints Arena, Perry went to great lengths to express her darker, sensitive side with a spectacular and complex stage production that included surrealist creatures, ballads and disco and house electronics.

The show began when Perry made a fantastic entrance through an eye-shaped stage, bathed in light and smoke.

Wearing a red jumpsuit, Perry started with an energetic performance of “Roulette,” climbing huge casino game props.

She kept the sparkly outfit on for her lead single “Chained to the Rhythm.” Her dancers marched across a red stage with televisions on their heads.

Perry had led the audience down her rabbit hole. The concert was entertaining. Fans, dressed in old Perry-like outfits, smiled, sang and danced.

Perry is one of the best-selling artists of all time, selling more than 100 million records globally. Her 2013 album“Teenage Dream” was the first album by a female artist to produce five No. 1 songs.

Noah Cyrus, Miley Cyrus’ sister, opened for Perry, covering Lady Gaga and sounding and looking similar to her sister.
