PITTSBURGH — Thursday morning, keepers at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium orchestrated the first check-up of their newly-born Amur leopard cub.
“This first exam is an opportunity for us to meet and ensure the cub is healthy and growing,” said Dr. Ginger Sturgeon, director of animal health.
The cub, who was first documented on the zoo’s surveillance camera with her mother, was temporarily separated for the checkup.
“She’s a little feisty but that’s what we want,” Sturgeon said.
Keepers say the cub is active and loves to venture outside of the den.
The cub, who was identified as a female, has yet to be named.
