McKEESPORT, Pa. — A man who worked as an EMT in Allegheny County has been arrested for multiple sex offenses against children, Allegheny County police said.
Andrew Demeri, 24, of West Mifflin, is charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault, endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors and indecent exposure.
Police said Demeri was arrested on Tuesday while he riding along in an ambulance and applying for a job in Washington County. Police called that emergency service and told crews to keep Demeri there because they were coming to arrest him.
Allegheny County officials said the offenses he is charged with did not happen while he was on duty, and police said it is not believed that they happened during the course of his employment.
Allegheny County police are investigating the incidents, which are alleged to have happened in several areas, including McKeesport, Pitcairn and Westmoreland County.
Police interviewed an 8-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl who both said Demeri sexually assaulted them repeatedly. The children told investigators that he "repeatedly raped and forced them to perform sex acts. In one case, the abuse caused the girl to vomit and she told police he was her worst nightmare.
Demeri posted many photos on Facebook in local EMT and firefighter T-shirts. Many of those chiefs have contacted Channel 11, saying he did not work for them.
Demeri is being held in the Allegheny County Jail. He was arraigned on $100,000 bond.
