1 dead, firefighter hurt after multi-vehicle accident on Perry Highway

PINE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — One man died and a firefighter was hurt Tuesday after a multi-vehicle crash on Perry Highway in Pine Township, officials said.

The initial multi-vehicle accident was reported just before 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Perry Highway and Bradford Road.

Northern Regional police said a vehicle headed north on Perry Highway tried to make a U-turn when another vehicle heading south crashed into that vehicle.

Not far from the accident scene, a second accident involving a fire vehicle occurred, police said.

Officials said the firefighter was trying to detour traffic, but his vehicle was struck before he even got out.

The medical examiner confirmed Tuesday night that a person in one of the vehicles involved in the original accident died. The victim was identified as Frank Napoleon, 65, of Sewickley. His official cause and manner of death are pending, the medical examiner said.

A doctor who has a business nearby said accidents are a major concern of his.

“We’ve had a couple of vehicles be pushed onto the property because of the speed of which these vehicles collide,” said Dr. Tom Lawrence, of Clinical Nutrition Centers.

The investigation into the crashes is ongoing, police said.
