DUI checkpoints planned this weekend in the North Hills

PITTSBURGH — The North Hills DUI Task Force is planning on conducting stationary checkpoints this weekend throughout the region.

The North Hills DUI Task Force includes police from the communities of Bradford Woods Borough, Etna Borough, Indiana Township, Marshall Township, O’Hara Township, Pine Township, Richland Township, Ross Township, Shaler Township, West Deer Township and West View Borough.

“The purpose of the North Hills DUI Task Force is to save lives on the roadways and reduce injuries,” West Deer Township Police Officer Briand Dobson said in a press release. “Sobriety checkpoints are a proactive visual deterrent while also removing impaired drivers; roving or saturation patrols are traffic details with the main goal to spot and stop possible impaired drivers before they can cause harm to innocent unsuspecting motorists traveling on our roadways. Roving, Perimeter Patrols and or Saturation patrols are often conducted to compliment a Stationary checkpoint as well and apprehend those operators that try to avoid the checkpoint and subsequent arrest.”

Dobson said this is the 17^th year for the North Hills DUI Task Force. To date, 188 checkpoints and roving patrols have been conducted.

There have been 1,821 individuals tested for DUI, and of those tested, 839 have been arrested.

“The North Hills DUI Task Force reminds all drivers over the age of 21 to be responsible and never operate a motor vehicle while impaired,” Dobson said. “Read carefully all instruction labels on prescriptions or over the counter medications and make arrangements prior to consuming alcohol for a designated driver. Don’t risk arrest, injury or death.”
