Girl, 15, takes down attempted luring suspect's license plate, leading to arrest

STOWE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — With the help of a 15-year-old girl, police arrested a man Wednesday accused of trying to lure her in Stowe Township on Sunday.

Authorities said the girl told them David Andrews, who just moved here from California, approached her about 11:30 a.m. on Island Avenue as she was walking home and asked her if she wanted a ride.

According to police, the girl said she told him no, but he became more aggressive. The girl said Andrews never got out of his car, but when she said no he said, “Come on, just get in.”

Investigators said the girl then threatened to report him and he drove away. The girl was able to partially get the man’s license plate number, and reported it to police.

“If she would have gotten in the car with him, who knows what would have happened?” the girl’s mother said.

According to the girl’s mother, they were out on Monday and saw the man’s car. She said they followed him to where he worked and they alerted police.

“I said, ‘Is that him?’ and she said, ‘Yes. Get out of here. Hurry up,’” the girl’s mother said.

Andrews, 51, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with stalking, attempted luring, corruption of minors and harassment, officials said.

“The girl’s mother did the right thing. They all did a very good job,” Stowe Township Police Chief Matthew Preininger said.

The girl’s mother told Channel 11’s Renee Kaminski that Sunday was the second time her daughter was the victim of an attempted luring.

The mother said her daughter was targeted by a sex offender a few years ago near Foodland in McKees Rocks.

Schools in the area said they sent out an alert to parents to inform them of Sunday’s incident.
