Victim lured to carjacking through social media post; Vehicle found in South Park, police say

A victim lured to a carjacking through a social media post was assaulted and his vehicle taken by gunpoint this morning.

The vehicle was found later in South Park Township.

Officers were called to the 2300 block of Beaver Avenue around 12:23 a.m. for the report of a carjacking, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

The victim reported he was lured to the area of Manheim Street in the city’s Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood through a social media post. Four people allegedly threatened him at gunpoint.

One of the people then hit him in the head with a gun before fleeing with his vehicle.

Medics arrived but the victim refused to be transported to a hospital.

The vehicle was later located in South Park Township and towed for processing, according to a report.

Channel 11 saw a heavy police presence at an apartment complex in the 600 block of Parkford Drive in South Park this morning.

We saw police enter the complex with their guns drawn. Pittsburgh police were at the scene and a blue SUV was towed from the area around 5 a.m.

A Pittsburgh Public Safety representative said so far, no one has been taken into custody.
