Man accused of attacking brother-in-law with samurai sword

MONESSEN, Pa. — A Westmoreland County man is facing charges after being accused of attacking his brother-in-law with a samurai sword, police told Channel 11 News.

Todd Allen Clark, 51, of Monessen, faces charges of criminal attempted homicide and assault.

When officers arrived at the home at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, they said they found Clark with a large amount of blood on his head and face, and a bloody samurai sword on the porch.

Police said Clark attacked his sister, Amelia Garey, with a cane because she did not allow him to smoke marijuana inside her McMahon Avenue home.

When her husband, Bill Garey, tried to stop him, Clark took the sword from behind his bed and dragged it across Bill Garey’s face, witnesses said.

As Bill Garey punched Clark, another man in the house took the sword from Clark, the man told police.

Bill Garey was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital with a large cut on his nose.

“I got lucky, very, very lucky,” Garey told Channel 11 News after getting more than two dozen stiches. "I thought he hit me with a cane. That's what he had. That's what he swung at her, and he just clocked me across. I didn't know I was bleeding."
