Man stabs parents, cuts himself on neck in Pittsburgh neighborhood

PITTSBURGH — A man and his parents were taken to the hospital after he stabbed them both and cut himself on the neck, police said.

Officials said Mark Kissel, 51, stabbed his mother multiple times, stabbed his father once and cut himself on the neck with a knife around 4:42 p.m. in the 300 block of Mathews Avenue in the Knoxville neighborhood.

When police arrived, they found the 73-year-old mother and 64-year-old father outside of the house.

Police said after Kissel retrieved some Oxycodine from his father's pocket, he was no longer combative.

Officials told Channel 11's Shelley Bortz that Kissel had himself barricaded inside the home and refused to come out at one point during the incident. Police were able to get him out of the home peacefully.

A neighbor said he went outside after he heard a woman screaming and saw the father going down the street with blood on him.

"I looked down the street and the neighbors were out there. The husband was walking up the street and he had some blood on him. He said his son attacked him in the house. He had a knife and stabbed him. I called 911," Joe Klein said.

Both parents were taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital in stable condition. Kissel was taken to UPMC Presbyterian in stable condition.

Pittsburgh police said Kissel is expected to be charged with aggravated assault and robbery.
