Parkway East closed this weekend between Oakland, Wilkinsburg

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

A portion of the Parkway East in Pittsburgh is closed this weekend and next weekend as part of the Greenfield Bridge reconstruction project.

Both the inbound and outbound lanes are closed to all traffic between Oakland and Wilkinsburg through Monday at 6 a.m.

Posted detours will follow the same routes and patterns as previous Parkway East closures that took place during the bridge implosion in December. Signage will be provided to direct motorists and off-duty police officers will be directing traffic at key intersections to assist motorists along the detour routes and help minimize travel times.

Maps of the official detours:

This weekend, as part of the Beechwood Boulevard (Greenfield) Bridge replacement project, crews will place steel arches and decking over the Parkway East. PennDOT said the goal is to have both arches in place by Monday.

The second closure will start on after Light Up Night celebrations in the early morning of Nov. 19. At that time, the parkway will remain closed until 6 a.m. on Nov. 21. During the second closure, crews will place the remaining steel elements.

After next weekend’s closure, PennDOT said crews from Mosites Construction Co. will finish tightening all steel connections and perform miscellaneous activities on-site. This work will not affect Parkway East traffic.

Motorists are advised to use caution, slow down and be prepared for changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area. Visit

or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major roadways before heading out.
