PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh homicide detectives are now looking into a possible link between a rap video and the August shooting death of a Homewood man, Channel 11 News learned on Thursday.
Raekwon Epps, 20, was
while he was sitting in a chair outside a building in the 800 block of Brushton Avenue in the city’s Homewood neighborhood.
Authorities said a few hours before Epps was shot and killed, a rap video that featured Epps debuted on social media. In the rap world, the video is considered a “diss,” a mind of musical smack down of another person.
Pittsburgh homicide detectives said they have seen several such videos in which Epps appeared front and center.
Channel 11 News also came across another video on social media that was posted two weeks after Epps’ death features a man named Bugotti Bub, who describes himself as a new upcoming artist from Pittsburgh’s Eastside.
"There was a million guys in that video. Any of us could have died that night,” Bub says in the video. “We all signed up for this. We knew the consequences. That's all it is. There ain’t nobody to blame.”
Investigators said they are also aware of Bub’s video.
No suspects have been named in Epps’ death, but the social media videos are being closely looked at by authorities.
