Police make more prostitution arrests as part of ongoing sting

Pittsburgh police are continuing a crackdown on prostitution on the city’s North Side.

People who live and work in the area of Middle and Foreland streets have been complaining about illegal activity almost daily.

One suspect, Robert Vining, of New Kensington, initially ran away from police, according to investigators. Vining was charged with soliciting sex, drug possession and escape.

Undercover police also arrested a convicted sex offender who has failed to register his address for several months. Michael Taylor, 43, was convicted of attempted rape in 2009.

Investigators did not release all the names of the people who were arrested, but Channel 11 confirmed two men were arrested near East Ohio Street, and a woman was arrested on Cedar Avenue.

Resident Bill Latzko said the crackdown is a sign the North Side community is fed up.

“As long as the people and the businesses stick together, you know we’ll be OK,” Latzko said.
