BIELSKO BIALA, POLAND — Some Tom Hanks fans in southern Poland have bought the Oscar-winning actor an iconic communist era Fiat, after Hanks posted pictures with the car on social media.
The idea all started when Tom Hanks posted a picture with the Fiat on Twitter with the caption: "I got a new car!"
More photos of Hanks posing next to the car followed on his Facebook page and it became a running gag on his Twitter feed.
Then a woman in the Polish city where the car was produced decided to organize a fundraiser to actually send Hanks the car.
She managed to raise over $2000 on Facebook and gathered a team of local companies volunteering to repair and refurbish the vintage car to its original glory.
The plan is to eventually give Hanks the car.
