Teenager shot, killed near playground in Garfield

A teenager was shot and killed in Pittsburgh’s Garfield neighborhood late Thursday night.

PITTSBURGH — Investigators said the shooting happened around dinner time at Nelson Mandela Peace Park on North Evaline and Broad streets.

Police said the victim, 17-year-old Naytel Pack, of Pittsburgh, was shot several times in the back.

The victim’s uncle said he was in the area at the time of the shooting and tried saving his nephew.

“I told him to breathe. He took three deep breaths. I swear I felt a pulse. He didn’t die in my hands,” the man, who did not want to be identified said. “An average kid. Trying to get better. Trying to better his life. This has to stop. Put God first.”

So far, no arrests have been made.

Family members said they’re planning a vigil at the park for Pack soon.
