2 women critically hurt, rescued after car crashes over hillside, lands in creek

McKEESPORT, Pa. — Two women are in critical condition after the car they were in careened off a hill into a creek Tuesday afternoon.

“We used a ladder truck as a crane to basically lift the patients out," said Tom Perciavalle, deputy fire chief for McKeesport.

The car was about 30 feet below the road.

“It was a very technical rescue to get them out of there; there was a lot of ropes and rigging involved," Perciavalle said.

The car ended up in the creek after the driver lost control on Long Run Road in McKeesport.

"Crossed and jumped a curb and through a few stone barriers and wound up all four wheels down in a creek," Perciavalle said. “They were out and talking when we retrieved them from the car."

It took a little less than one hour to rescue both women. Firefighters told Channel 11 if the crash had happened just a few days earlier, the car would've been underwater.

"Fortunately, it wasn’t last week when our creeks were swollen. We would’ve really had a problem," Perciavalle said.
