Apartment infested with maggots

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Washington County apartment is covered in maggots.

The young mother living there reached out to Channel 11 after she found the bugs on her baby's bedding.

"They were coming out of the carpet, they were coming out of the inside of the closet out of a corner part, so it's pretty nasty,” Nautica Bennett said. She moved into Belvedere Acres Apartments two years ago.

She says she didn’t start having problems until last week when she heard mice in her walls.

Bennett also says the noises stopped and that’s when she noticed the maggots.

She claims she reached out to building management several times, but no one responded.

"I think that it's not okay that they're acting like it's okay to live like this, especially with two children. Who would want to live like this?” Bennett said.

Channel 11 contacted the property manager, who told us: "I am familiar with the situation. Our exterminating contractor inspects each building once a month and did so here a few weeks ago. In between if there are complaints, as in this case, we have our building maintenance immediately check, which he did. The resident continued to detect an odor and an exterminator is on site investigating."
