Controversial principal named head football coach at Woodland Hills HS

PITTSBURGH — A vote Wednesday night confirmed the Woodland Hills Junior/Senior High School principal accused of threatening a student with special needs as the school’s new head football coach.

Kevin Murray was placed on paid leave in November as principal after a recording surfaced of him allegedly threatening to punch the 14-year-old student. The Allegheny County District Attorney later determined that Murray would not face charges.

Murray returned to work in January and was up for the job of head football coach, having previously served as assistant coach.

A one year, $12,000 contract for Murray was up for vote at Wednesday night’s school board meeting, which was attended by upset parents.

Some parents brought signs to show their frustration and demand that Murray be fired. Also in attendance was a 14-year-old student whose teeth were allegedly knocked out by a school resource officer at the high school in early April.

Parents told Channel 11 News that they have lost trust in the school district and are challenging the board to rescind its vote and select someone other than Murray.
