MONROEVILLE, Pa. — Sliced deli ham from April 2014 was found in a storage facility and fed to some students in the Gateway School District.
Parents were shocked to hear 3-year-old food was served to students and say the district employees should know better.
According to our news partners at the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, the news came at a school board meeting where officials say an oversight caused frozen ham dated from April 2014 to be served to students at its seven schools.

This week, the school district voted to ban the storage of food for more than three years.
School officials say as for this recent case, the ham had been kept frozen and had not expired, but parents say that's still no excuse.
“Unacceptable!” Stephanie Dinatale said. “Regardless if it's frozen or not, these are our kids. This is our future.”
Channel 11 reached out to district officials to learn more, but they did not return our email or phone call.
