Heinz Field makes early list of potential sites for US World Cup 2026 bid

Most people look at Heinz Field on the North Shore and get excited for another year of Steelers football.

But some people are looking at Heinz Field and seeing soccer.

The United States, Mexico and Canada are all teaming up to be considered as host sites for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Right now, the list of possible hosts sites is pretty long.

But according to our news partners at the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Heinz Field is still making the first-round cut.

The big committee is led by U.S. soccer and honorary chairman Robert Kraft.

Kraft owns the New England Patriots and New England Revolution soccer.

Heinz Field is one of 49 possible stadiums up for consideration as the big team sets up its best option to submit to FIFA.

The final list needs to be submitted by March 2018.

By that time, the committee needs to trim its list to 20 to 25 stadiums.
