After receiving no response at the door and hearing movement in the house, police made entry into the home. They continued the search and contacted McKeesport Fire Department for assistance in gaining access to the attic crawlspace.
Sparrow exited the attic after 45 minutes of police and firefighters using tools and pepper spray to try and get the suspect out.
The homeowner, J'qua Paylor, 23, arrived at the home after Sparrow surrendered, according to police. She was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant for terroristic threats and other crimes.
Sparrow is charged with criminal homicide and other crimes. He was brought to the Allegheny County homicide unit where he was transferred into that unit's department based on where the homicide occurred.
