PITTSBURGH — The suspect accused in the murder of Pitt student Alina Sheykhet is behind bars.
Police arrested Matthew Darby in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina early Wednesday morning.

Darby has a preliminary hearing on rape charges in Indiana County. Most charges are held for court, three others are dismissed.

Darby is accused of breaking into Alina Sheykhet’s home on Cable Place in Oakland. Darby is accused of climbing up the gutter on the side of the home and breaking through a second-floor window.

Alina Sheykhet files a protection from abuse order against Darby.
Sept. 26, 2017
Darby is arrested by Pittsburgh police and charged with criminal trespass for the Sept. 20 incident.

According to court documents, the PFA is served on Darby by the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Department.

Darby has a status hearing on rape charges in Indiana County.

Investigators say Darby placed five phone calls to Alina Sheykhet’s cellphone. None of those calls were answered.
Alina Sheykhet is found murdered inside her Cable Place home.

A concerned citizen in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, notices a suspicious person trying to break into a window of a home.
Police say they arrived on the scene and allegedly found Darby. He is arrested and charged with providing false information to police.
9 a.m. – Darby appears in court for a bond hearing.
Darby will be extradited back to Pittsburgh to face homicide charges. His attorney said no timetable has been set for his return.
