Police: 2 flee scene of crash that killed woman

PITTSBURGH — The search continues for a driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run in East Hills on Friday morning.

Pittsburgh police say the driver who crashed head-on into a second driver ran off, leaving her to die.

It happened just before 5:30 a.m. on Frankstown Avenue, when police say a white Chevy Silverado and a black Kia Sportage collided.

A passerby and the Onstar system in one of the vehicles alerted investigators.

On Friday afternoon, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the 59-year-old woman from Verona driving the Kia was killed in the crash.

She died at the scene.

"That's bad because I drive on this road a lot,” said Homewood resident James Haddock. “Not at that time of night, but I drive this road a lot and I don't understand it."

When police arrived a short time after the crash, the driver of the Silverado was missing.

Police have not released the name of the suspect or a possible description. Investigators believe he may have been with a female passenger as well.

Haddock said he was surprised to hear about the crash. Now he wants answers as to why this happened and who is responsible.

"It would be nice, it would be nice (if they find the driver),” he said. “These accidents always go unanswered. You never hear anything more about them other than two or three days after they happen."
