Police to charge Pittsburgh teacher with possessing drug paraphernalia

A Pittsburgh Public Schools teacher will face charges of possession of marijuana paraphernalia that included marijuana residue.

According to a district spokesperson, the teacher – who works at Taylor Allderdice High School in Squirrel Hill – was attending a PIAA basketball playoff game at Carrick High School on Friday night.

School police say they detected an odor of marijuana on the teacher. They searched him and found drug paraphernalia along with marijuana residue.

The teacher was then escorted home by police and will be charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

“He's supposed to be a role model,” said parent Kevin Johnson. “Hopefully they take care of everything.”

Parents were concerned when they heard about the arrest.

“It’s definitely not setting a good example,” said parent Matikka Bey. “It's bad enough that's what's going on in the world …  it's enough already.”

The district said the teacher was not at work on Monday, so no disciplinary action has been levied.
