Police investigate bomb threat at Duquesne University

UPDATE (5:00 PM) 

Police and K-9 units concluded their search of the A.J. Palumbo Center following an "unsubstantiated" bomb threat received by Duquesne University police Saturday.

Most of the police vehicles and K-9 units left the scene, and the doors were opened to the Palumbo Center ahead of the men's basketball team's season opener.

Police are investigating a bomb threat on Duquesne University’s campus Saturday, university officials said.

According to Rose Ravasio, media relations manager at Duquense University, police received an “unsubstantiated” bomb threat around 4 p.m. Saturday.

Ravasio said that the university sent out a “crime alert” to students and parents at 4:19 p.m., which said that a man called in to report a “bomb in a back pack where people eat.”

The alert said that Duquesne University services were not disrupted, and that students should not leave any backpacks unattended.

Duquesne police are currently working with Pittsburgh police and Port Authority to search the campus.

Police and K-9 units also searched inside the A.J. Palumbo Center.

The Duquesne men’s basketball team has its season opener Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against St. Francis Brooklyn in the Palumbo Center.

That building was not evacuated, and patrons are being allowed to enter ahead of the basketball game.
