Police issue warning about man exposing himself to women in Shadyside

SHADYSIDE — Police are warning people to be on the lookout for a man who has allegedly exposed and touched himself in front of multiple women around a local neighborhood.

Ellsworth Avenue is one of the busiest roads in Shadyside and one woman claims a man exposed himself, and more, while she waited for the bus there.

"That was really creepy," Madeline Schatten said. "I was scared and didn't want to be there."

She was standing at the bus stop at the corner of Ellsworth and Filbert in Shadyside two weeks ago when she noticed a man pacing behind her.

"I wasn't really looking too closely, but I texted my sister that there's a strange guy at the bus stop and I think he's looking at me," Schatten said.

Schatten said she tried to ignore him, but felt his presence.

When she turned around, his pants were down and he was touching himself. She immediately ran away.

"It was really kind of startling to start thinking about going out at 7:30 on a school night as kind of a dangerous time," Schatten said.

Pittsburgh police told Channel 11 they're aware of sightings and one woman formally filed a complaint.

Channel 11 found several people on the NextDoor app who also wrote about similar incidents.

"I thought maybe it was just a one-time thing, so I didn't make to big of a deal about it. But knowing that it's happened to other women made it a bigger deal to me," Schatten said.

Schatten didn't get a good look at the suspect, but she came forward to help get apprehend him.

Pittsburgh police are urging anyone who has seen this man exposing himself to file a complaint and call 911 immediately after it happens.
