Police search for man who burglarized South Side home

Police are searching for the intruder who burglarized a South Side home while a man and his roommates were asleep inside.

It happened early Sunday on Welsh Way.

The person who lives in the home said the burglar forced his way inside through a basement door and got away with hundreds of dollars in cash, credit cards and his girlfriend's purse.

The thief broke in when the sun was coming up, and even appeared to make himself comfortable inside the home before he was chased away.

"He was sitting here and he was going through this book and taking the cash out, you can see his fingerprints," Matthew Agostinelli said.

Agostinelli opened his eyes and made direct contact with the man.

"I couldn't believe what was happening and I just started chasing him down," he said. That was down several flights of stairs, then he said the man hid and eventually took off on a bike.

His roommate's surveillance camera captured the intruder in action, attempting to get inside through the front door and eventually heading to the back of the house. He thinks the man forced his way in through the basement backdoor and made his way up to the top floor bedroom.

Pittsburgh police are investigating.
