Security guard accused of assaulting patient at Excela Health

GREENSBURG, Pa. — Police charged a security guard at a Westmoreland County hospital with assaulting a patient in the mental health unit.

Staffers say it was a violent attack.

Other employees say this guard threw the patient on the ground and slammed her head into the floor.

His actions cost him his job and he's being charged by the police.

The contracted security guard was working at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg.

Police say Scott Wilson is now facing a slew of charges including neglect of a care dependent person and harassment.

When Channel 11 obtained the criminal complaint, we learned Wilson was contracted through Allied Universal Security, which told Channel 11 Wilson no longer works with the company.

In the police paperwork, Channel 11 learned Wilson and the patient -- who's intellectually disabled -- had a history.

On November 5th when the patient was transported to the emergency room, she became combative with staff. When security responded, the victim allegedly hit Wilson in the face.

Eight days later, this same patient became agitated and combative in her room. When security was called this time, Wilson responded again.

But this time, other staff members were disturbed by what came out of Wilson's mouth.

Police paperwork says they reported that "Wilson threw [patient] to the floor and restrained her neck with his arm while 'slamming' her head into the floor with his hand."

Wilson then said he would break the patient's arm if she did not hold still.

When a detective interviewed Wilson about what happened, he said his "adrenaline was pumping" and he let his "temper get the better of him."

When Channel 11 reached out to Excela Health for comment, they had "nothing to share."
