PITTSBURGH — A woman was arrested Sunday night after her daughter was found alone and shivering outside a convenience store in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood, police said.
Officers patrolling in the area of North Homewood and Frankstown avenues spotted the girl, who was trying to buy food at the store, about 7:30 p.m., according to a criminal complaint.

The officers took the girl home, where her mother, 32-year-old Nickole Torres, was with another daughter, the complaint said.

Both girls told police that they hadn’t eaten in a day and a half, the complaint said.
Torres, who police said admitted to trading her food stamps for drugs, was arrested. She is charged with endangering the welfare of children.
The girls were placed in the care of Children, Youth and Families.
