No one was charged in 23-year-old Codi Joyce’s death, but his family maintains there are people responsible for his death.
Joyce's body was found inside a home on Shady Avenue in Munhall in September 2015. His death was initially considered suspicious, then the Allegheny County medical examiner ruled it a homicide.
His father, John Joyce said the family decided to file the lawsuit against the people he says are responsible for his son's death.
"We hope the civil case exposes the truth and brings justice for my son," Joyce said. "He was basically gang-beaten and killed."
The lawsuit says the argument started over a Hot Pocket snack. It also states that people at the party told others there "not to call 911 so Codi could receive medical attention."
His father also says there are text messages from one of the six people named, saying they killed Codi. The lawsuit was just filed on Friday and will still need to be served to the people named.
The district attorney said the case is still open. Stay with Channel 11 News and WPXI.com for continuing coverage.
