Robert Shook, 38, of Cherryville, North Carolina, died from injuries sustained during the shooting in Rock Hill, York County Coroner Sabrina Gast said. He is the sixth victim to die after former NFL cornerback Phillip Adams opened fire. Adams later died from a self-inflicted wound, authorities said.

Shook was working with his co-worker, James Lewis, 38, when they were both shot outside the home of a prominent physician. Officials said Lewis died at the scene and Shook was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, where he died days later, WSOC-TV reported.

Killed during Wednesday’s shooting were Dr. Robert Lesslie, 70; Barbara Lesslie, 69; James Lewis, 38; Adah Lesslie, 9; and Noah Lesslie, 5.

Lewis and Shook were air conditioning technicians for GSM Services, based in Gastonia, North Carolina. They were working at Lesslie’s house in Rock Hill when Adams, 33, opened fire on them before forcing his way into the home, York County Sheriff Kevin Tolson said Thursday. Deputies found the men suffering gunshot wounds in the driveway at their work vans.

Lewis, 38, died of his wounds on Wednesday. Shook was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Adams’ parents live near Lesslie’s home in Rock Hill. Adams, 32, had previously been treated by the doctor, according to The Associated Press.

Adams played in 78 NFL games over five seasons for six teams. A defensive back and special teams player from South Carolina State, Adams was drafted in the seventh round by the San Francisco 49ers in 2010.
