WILKINSBURG — More than 100 Little League baseball players marched through the streets of Wilkinsburg Saturday, but the event was more than just a celebration of a new baseball season.
Fed-up community members marched alongside the players on a three-mile stretch in Wilkinsburg to show unity and to protest ongoing violence in the community.
The community spoke with a loud voice Saturday, and they came together to show that a brighter future is ahead.
"Stay strong, stay together, stay focused," said David E. Reese, an official with the Wilkinsburg baseball league. "It's going to get better."
Reese said Saturday's march is "showing that there is a lot of positive energy within the community." %

"They want their kids to live a nice peaceful life. They want their kids to be educated and be able to walk the streets during the day and not have to worry about any kind of violence," Reese said.
The event was also to show the Little League players that there is plenty of hope in Wilkinsburg. That was on display after the parade, when the Little League season officially got underway with games, hot dogs and cheering. %
