PITTSBURGH — Former Pittsburgh Pirates World Series pitcher Kent Tekulve will retire from broadcasting at the end of the team’s 2017 season, he announced Wednesday.
Tekulve began working with AT&T SportsNet in 2008 and provided analysis for Pirates pre- and post-game shows.
After graduating from Marietta College in 1969, Tekulve signed with the Pirates and stayed with the team through 1985.
In the 1979 World Series, Tekulve helped the Pirates force a Game 7, which the team won.

Upon retiring from MLB, Tekulve spent time as part of the Phillies’ television broadcast before returning to Pittsburgh to serve as the Director of Operations for the Washington Wild Things. In 2006, he began working as the Pirates’ advance scout.
AT&T SportsNet will celebrate Tekulve’s career during every Sunday Pirates telecast throughout the remainder of the season, beginning September 10.
“I have very much enjoyed being able to pass along to the fans some of the knowledge of the game that I acquired during my playing days. Working with all of the very talented production professionals, on and off camera, has been very satisfying and fulfilling,” Tekulve said in a statement.
