Pirates back at full capacity for home games starting July 1

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates announced home games at PNC Park will be back at full capacity by Thursday, July 1.

The team said it is taking steps over the next few weeks to starting lifting seating restrictions throughout the stadium. The goal is to make every seat available for every game beginning with the July 4 weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Pirates said it will be a two-step process:

  • Phase 1: All 12 home games from Thursday, June 3 through Wednesday, June 23, will operate with an approximate three-foot social distancing between seating allotments. This will result in an increase in ballpark capacity to approximately 55-percent capacity.
  • Phase 2: Beginning Thursday, July 1, PNC Park will operate at full capacity with all seating restrictions lifted.

All tickets for the remainder of the season will go on sale to the general public Wednesday, May 26 at 10 a.m. online at Pirates.com/tickets, via the MLB Ballpark app or by calling 1-800-BUY-BUCS.

The two phases will allow the Pirates to open the ballpark in the safest manner and extend time for more fans to become fully vaccinated. Last week, in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Health’s announcement, the Pirates released they will no longer require guests who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to wear a face mask while at PNC Park. The Pirates join the team’s partners Allegheny Health Network and Highmark Health in encouraging everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

“We are incredibly excited to continue the process of opening PNC Park up to more fans and taking the next important steps toward operating PNC Park at full capacity,” said Pirates President Travis Williams. “Summer in Pittsburgh is about enjoying time with friends and family at the ballpark. With the easing of restrictions, this is the perfect time to begin opening the ballpark without limitations and offer the perfect venue to come back together as a community.”

Ticket presale opportunities are scheduled leading up to the general on-sale, including the Season Ticket Holder presale beginning on Monday, May 24. On Tuesday, May 25, Pirates partners, suite holders, group leaders, Pirates.com registered users, social media followers and more will have a special opportunity to purchase tickets prior to Wednesday’s on-sale. Pirates Season Ticket Holders will receive more information tomorrow, Wednesday, May 19, via email regarding their temporary seat location for June. In conjunction with the move to 100-percent seating capacity starting July 1, Season Ticket Holders will have access to their original seat locations.

This season, the Pirates will make digital delivery of tickets the method for all fans to receive their tickets.
