PITTSBURGH — Evgeni Malkin paid tribute to his now former teammate, Marc-Andre Fleury, Wednesday night on Instagram.
Malkin shared a photo of himself wearing a Penguins jersey with Fleury’s number with the team, 29. He had the jersey on backwards to show that it said “My MVP” in place of “Fleury.”
The caption simply said, “sad day.”
During Wednesday night’s 2017 NHL Awards, it was officially announced that Fleury was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the NHL expansion draft.
The Penguins tweeted out a photo of Fleury and Sidney Crosby “hugging it out” backstage at the award show, which was held in Las Vegas.

Fleury, you are an incredible netminder, prankster, teammate, and an even better person. Thank you for everything. #MerciFleury."
