PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins’ all-star center Evgeni Malkin did not speak to the media after Wednesday’s morning skate ahead of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final with the San Jose Sharks.
Maybe that's because he hasn't gotten much sleep over the past few days after he and his fiancée welcomed a baby boy.
Channel 11's Bill Phillips confirmed the news with Malkin's teammates Justin Schultz and Bryan Rust.
When asked by Phillips whether Malkin handed out cigars to celebrate the occasion, Rust said, “No, but he was definitely really excited. He came to the rink with a smile on his face. Everyone was saying congratulations.”
Phillips learned from Penguins announcer Phil Bourque that the baby’s name is Nikita.
