BRIDGEVILLE, Pa. — A busy bridge will close for several days this week, and police are advising motorists to prepare.
The portion of Washington Pike that runs over Chartiers Creek, connecting Bridgeville to South Fayette, will fully close from Thursday night through Monday morning.
Lane restrictions will begin sooner, according to police, as crews will work to remove the traffic signals and put new, temporary signals in their place.
Stretches of nearby Chartiers and Church streets will close as well. Detours will be in place with police assisting drivers.
The bridge sidewalks will also close. According to police, a pedestrian shuttle will be operational from 6:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. Pedestrians will be picked up every 30 minutes, with pick-up and drop-off locations on Washington Ave. at James St. and Washington Ave. at Millers Run Road.
The project, which will include additional closures, is serving to widen the bridge to seven lanes. It is expected to wrap up this spring.
Drivers said that while the closures will be difficult, they look forward to the improvements.
