PITTSBURGH — It’s the coldest morning of the season, with temperatures in the teens almost everywhere. Winds are light, so wind chill is not much of a factor this morning — but it’s very cold.
We’ll warm back closer to average in the afternoon, but lower-level clouds will be replaced by mid to high-level clouds. Clouds thicken overnight as temperatures settle just below freezing early Sunday morning.
The leading edge of precipitation will move into the area between 6-7 a.m. Sunday, with a brief period of freezing rain for much of Allegheny County. Freezing rain will linger longer up near I-80 and longest east over the higher elevations, where a tenth of an inch of ice is expected.
A chilly rain will take over by late morning for most areas as temperatures climb into the upper 30s. While milder air takes over early next week, it will stay unsettled, with another round of steady rain likely by Monday afternoon.
