Case of Legionnaires' Disease confirmed at senior housing complex

PENN HILLS, Pa. — A case of Legionnaires' Disease has been confirmed at a senior living facility in Penn Hills.

A resident of Beechview Commons has been diagnosed.

Allegheny County Health Officials tell Channel 11 they do not know exactly where the resident may have gotten the disease, but they are testing the facilities.

The facility on Leechburg Road is home to about 100 residents.

Officials say the facility is cooperating, testing its water and taking extra precautions until officials can determine where the resident who became ill might have contracted Legionnaires.

The disease can be deadly for someone with a compromised immune system.

County health officials are not releasing anything further about the victim.

Channel 11 has calls into the facility to find out how they are taking extra precaution until the source of the disease can be determined.
