PITTSBURGH — If you’re among the thousands of people hitting the road this Labor Day weekend, good news: Experts say you could see gas prices lower than we’ve seen in more than 15 years.
“With people on unemployment and out of jobs right now, I’m sure every penny counts, so it’s really good to hear that the gas prices are coming down,” driver Jeff Manuel said.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s estimated that 60% of Americans will be traveling over the holiday weekend, according to GasBuddy.

GasBuddy’s experts say gas prices are set to be the lowest since 2004, when the national average was $1.82 per gallon.
This year, it’s predicted gas prices could be at $2.19 per gallon. Currently, the average in the Pittsburgh region is $2.54 per gallon.
“It’s actually really nice. I thought for sure there would be a lot of inflation to make up for the lack of travel, but it didn’t turn out that way at all, so at least that’s a good thing,” driver Casey Cercone said.
