MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Channel 11 gave you the first look at the Southern Beltway, a major highway project that once finished, will connect I-79 to the Pittsburgh International Airport.
The toll road project has been in the works since 2013 and the aim is to help alleviate traffic on the Parkway West. Turnpike officials said it will be opening in October.
“I can tell you there will be free sections for drivers between 79 and South Fayette way, and between Fort Cherry and Beach Hollow,” the project manager said.

How much will it cost you to drive the entire length?
“What I’m being told now is it won’t be any more than five dollars to run the entire length, all 19 miles, less than $5,” the project manager said.
The final decision on tolling rates will be made in July.
It is estimated that it will take about 15 to 20 minutes to get to the airport with no traffic using the new toll road.
