DUQUESNE, Pa. — A woman has been arrested after a 2-year-old boy was found walking along Harden Avenue in Duquesne Tuesday afternoon.
The woman, identified as Joslyn Horsley, 66, of North Braddock, was supposed to be babysitting him but instead got drunk and passed out, said Duquesne Police Chief Thomas Dunlevy.
Court records identify Horsley as the child’s grandmother.
The boy was found wandering in the street two blocks from the highway wearing only underwear and no shoes around 12:30 p.m. Someone was walking out of a sandwich shop and spotted the child.
The chief said it took hours to discover who this little child belonged to and once they did they had to call the dad who was blindsided at work.
“He was shocked - obviously - did absolutely nothing wrong. He thought he was handing off the child to a responsible adult. And as we found out that wasn’t the case here,” Dunlevy said.
Horsley was taken to the Allegheny County Jail and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and public intoxication, and released. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 3.
The woman said the Lord put her to sleep and that, yes, she had a beverage while babysitting, “but it’s not hard for kids to get out.”
