HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania House Republicans are calling for an immediate audit of the commonwealth’s elections results.
In a letter sent to Gov. Tom Wolf, Speaker of the House Bryan Cutler listed several issues with the election process -- including the Pa. Supreme Court extending deadlines for accepting mail-in ballots, not allowing signature comparisons by county officials, and limited access for poll watchers.
President Donald Trump’s campaign also filed legal action Monday related to several of the concerns listed.
The letter calls for the audit to happen before the election is certified. Pennsylvania’s certification deadline in Nov. 23.
A spokeswoman for the governor’s office said post-election audits are standard practice and will be conducted for this election.
Lt. Gov. John Fetterman told Channel 11 the legal action is counterproductive.
“At this point, you’re grinding metal on metal. It’s not getting anything accomplished and it’s stopping us from coming together, whether you like the result or not," he said.
Fetterman pointed out that every election is audited after the fact, and this year will be no different. He said the system worked, and calling it into question without evidence is damaging.
