PITTSBURGH — Steelers fans won’t have to go far to lay money on their favorite team after the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board approved Rivers Casino as one of five in the state allowed to offer sports betting.

That tentative approval, issued at a Wednesday meeting, depends on Rivers’ ability to set up an operation that meets the board’s approval.

Development on that operation is already in progress with a target launch date of Dec. 1, a casino spokesman told Channel 11.

TRENDING NOW:

The sports book would be set up in a temporary location on the south gaming floor before being moved to a permanent home where Levels Lounge currently exists, according to an application filed with the gaming board. That move is anticipated to be completed in spring 2019.

The sports book would be operated by Rush Street Interactive, a Chicago-based online gaming operator, according to the application.

Bets will be taken on all major U.S. sports leagues, as well as college football and basketball, golf, UFC, Nascar and overseas soccer.
