Butler School District involving local authorities with behavior problems at high school

BUTLER COUNTY — Butler Senior High school leaders are getting several law enforcement agencies and the District Attorney’s Office involved to solve problems within the district.

Brian White, the district’s superintendent sent a letter to families saying they have been dealing with an increase in student behavior issues at the Senior High School.

White says some of the incidents have risen to the level of criminal behavior but did not specify what those crimes include.

The school is now asking authorities to investigate why this is happening and potentially prosecute students.

“We met with the school and some law enforcement agencies last week we heard what the issues were from the superintendent and solicitor and we are going to do everything we can to address the problem they presented to us,” said District Attorney Rich Goldinger.

The school has notified the police about criminal behavior.

“We are looking at all the resources that we have combined to help combat and hopefully get the DA some arrests,” said Sheriff Mike Slupe.

The superintendent is also working with Glade Run, which provides therapeutic services to students who need support.

“Our staff is on-site providing mental health treatment right there during the day helping kids through that referral basis, opening up and getting them connected to provide that intervention,” said Dawn Halle from Glade Run.

The school has told families they have not been able to find a root cause at this time.
