PITTSBURGH — Our 11 Things to Do is going to be a little different for the next few weeks since we’re all practicing social separation and keeping our distance. So instead of 11 things to do in the Pittsburgh area this weekend, we’re giving you some things to check out while keeping your distance.
Remote Yoga Classes
Many gyms and fitness places are closed, but you can still stay healthy. Several local and national yoga studios are doing remote classes for everyone – from beginners to experts. Salt Power Yoga is one of them.

Extra Time to File Taxes
You have an extra three months to pay your income taxes because of the coronavirus.
You still have to file by April 15, but you don’t have to make a payment until July 15. If you’ve always had someone do your taxes for you, now may be the time to learn to do them yourself and save some extra money. There are several online guides that can help you learn.
Catch up on ‘This is Us’
Singer and actress Mandy Moore was supposed to be in Pittsburgh this weekend touring for her new album. Instead of seeing her live, in concert you can check out her acting skills on ‘This is Us’ – which airs Tuesday night’s on Channel 11.
You can watch 16 episodes right now on nbc.com.
To go back further than that, you’ll need to subscribe to a streaming service.

Celebrate Mr. Rogers
We’re celebrating the birthday of one of our favorite neighbors. Fred Rogers would have turned 92 on Friday March 19. Remember him and his famous line about always looking for the helpers. On the FREE WPXI Now app for Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire – we have come on-demand content you can check out about him, his show and his recent movie “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.”
Crafts for the Kids
If you’ve been taking care of your kids at home and are looking for more ways to keep them busy, try some fun crafts. Here’s a list of crafts for your kids (and you):
- Flubber
- Sock Puppets
- DIY Money Bank
- Pancake Art
- DIY Clothes Pins

Escape Cabin Fever
If you’ve got cabin fever, get outside to play catch or kick around the soccer ball. Both are good activities that also encourage social distance. You could set up an obstacle course for the kids or have them run and time them.
You may want to check the Severe Weather Team 11 app first to make sure there’s no rain in the forecast. If there is rain, you’ll have to change your plans. Maybe go for a quick drive or stomp around in the puddles.
Spring Cleaning
If this was another typical mid-March, you’d probably be doing some spring cleaning. There’s no reason you still can’t do that now. Bust out the brooms, wipe down the refrigerator. If your kids are home, get them involved and make a fun game of it. Get ahead of the good weather so that when social distancing ends, you’re not stuck at home cleaning.

Donate to the Food Banks
You probably know about our 11 Cares initiative. It’s one of the ways we give back to the Pittsburgh community.
We had a food drive planned for this weekend that would have benefited the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Greater Washington Community Food Bank. Unfortunately, that event was postponed.
Both food banks still need donations so they can help our neighbors. You can donate directly on the websites. We have more information HERE.
