Preview: Upper St. Clair High School rehearses 'Anything Goes'

PITTSBURGH — Upper St. Clair High School is performing “Anything Goes” this year.

“I love this musical.  The score is so uplifting, upbeat and fun.  It has been so exciting,” said junior Hannah Lane, who is playing Reno Sweeney.

Sweeney is an evangelist turned nightclub singer.

“Reno is so sassy.  I love how bold she is,” said Lane.

Senior Luke Graci is playing Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.

“Being able to act alongside my best friend, Hannah Lane, is my favorite thing about this musical,” said Graci.

While the experience has been fun for the students, there have been some challenges.

“Learning to have a British accent took a long time and was a challenge,” said Graci.

Student director Emily Violi is proud of cast members like Graci, who are working hard to perfect their roles.

“This year has been very exciting.  We are very lucky to have a large student leadership team, large cast and large student orchestra.  It’s so great to get to work with so many dedicated students.  Everyone is working so hard,” said Violi.

“Working with this cast is definitely an honor.  We have the best ensemble and support system here.  I feel so blessed to be able to work with such an amazing cast and crew,” said Graci.

Both Graci and Lane plan to pursue musical theater careers.

“Music is my passion.  I want to major in musical theater in college.  I hope to live my life being paid to create music in some way,” said Lane.
