IRWIN — Ruth Shuster celebrated a milestone 100th birthday in a unique fashion, with a celebration at the McDonald’s Big Mac Museum and the debut of her own signature combo meal.
Shuster, a lifelong North Huntingdon resident, has worked at the Big Mac Museum for 26 years after starting there in 1995 at age 73. The museum, which is located in Irwin, held the socially distanced celebration in the restaurant’s parking lot on Wednesday.
“I love it here. This is my family,” Shuster said. “It’s the nicest place to work and the best folks to work with.”
After graduating from high school in 1938 and becoming a WPA seamstress, Shuster eventually joined McDonald’s, where she’s become known for her quick wit, her love of dancing around the dining room, and her singing to customers, according to a news release.
While the store’s dining room is currently closed to the public, the community is invited to be part of the celebration by dropping off birthday messages to Shuster at a custom mailbox installed at the store to allow for birthday wishes to be delivered while maintaining social distancing.
