Winners crowned: Pittsburgh’s Best Pizza 2020 is...

Coronavirus special: Oregon restaurant offers pizza and toilet paper for $15

The day has come to crown Pittsburgh’s Best Pizza!

First, second and third place winners of Pittsburgh’s Best Pizza are:

First Place: Shelly Pie Pizza

Second Place: Capezzuto’s Pizza

Third Place: Mineo’s Pizza House

Meet the winners:

First Place: Shelly Pie Pizza

It’s true tale of how pizza brings people together. Three friends of over 15 years opened Shelly Pie Pizza on a whim, offering unique pizza and plenty of other homemade Italian specialties. The Shelly Pie way is a thin center and big hearty crust, making it a fork and knife pizza (too much goodness to eat by hand!).

Top Pizza Recommendation: They have two types that are highly recommended which are the Shelly Pie traditional and the Sicilian pizza. However, if you are going to try this for the first time, one of the owners, Jim Holland, suggests a traditional with ANY of their toppings.

“We busted our tail to get to this point and continue,” Holland said. “All three of us are working owners, and this is amazing! So happy. We love our employees. We love our customers.”

Second Place: Capezzuto’s Pizza

Capezzuto’s may be newer to the area, opening in May of 2019, but they are making their way to the top of pizza lists one pie at a time! They are located in Greenfield and offer takeout and delivery only.

Top Pizza Recommendations: Capezzuto’s highly recommends their white pizza (with tomatoes), the meat lovers pizza, and last but not least their pizza bagels!

“This means a lot to us considering we just opened not even a full year ago,” owner’s wife Naama Balass said. “My husband is the one who is there in the trenches day in and day out. He has been making pizzas probably over 20 years now. His big thing is one pizza at a time. He takes his time and really puts in the best for every single pizza."

Third Place: Mineo’s Pizza House

Get a taste of Sicily right in your backyard. If you know Pittsburgh pizza, then you definitely know Mineo’s! Mineo’s Pizza has become a Pittsburgh family tradition serving up delicious pies in Squirrel Hill and Mount Lebanon, and will soon make its way to the North Hills.

Top Pizza Recommendation: Dominic Mineo, co-owner of Mineo’s Pizza House, says his personal favorite is their pizza topped with sausage, onion, roasted red peppers and bacon -- calling it the Dom Special.

“This means everything to us, we’ve been in business since 1958, it’s a business that my father started and we are just thrilled about being the pizza business," says co-owner, Dominic Mineo.

A little heart shaped pizza to brighten a cloudy day! 🍕♥️
