PITTSBURGH — Two people died and another person was hurt in a crash at a Pittsburgh gas station early Friday.
A car crashed shortly after 1 a.m. at the BP on West Liberty Avenue, which is along the border of Pittsburgh’s Beechview and Brookline neighborhoods.
The car was traveling inbound when the driver lost control and the car struck a concrete lamp post, and traveled into the gas station, where it struck a brick wall and flipped over.
Police said three people were inside the car. A 27-year-old woman was able to free herself from the wreckage, while the other two were trapped inside.
The deceased victims were identified as 40-year-old William Sinagra and 28-year-old Henry Ruiz Jr. Both were from Pittsburgh's Spring Garden neighborhood.
Channel 11's Steven Fisher spoke with a close friend of both men, who said they both were fathers.
"It's hard. I don't want to believe it," William Thornton said. "It's just so sad man. His kids, they don't have their dad."
Thornton said family members were in contact with the victims last night before the crash.
"They were out eating. He texted my cousin, 'Be back soon.' Next thing you know then ... that happened."
The woman was taken to a hospital, where she remained in stable condition. The cause of the crash has not been determined, but police said that speed may have been a factor.
