Several residents displaced by fire at Munhall apartment complex

MUNHALL, Pa. — Eight apartments were damaged and several residents were displaced Tuesday morning after a fire at an apartment complex in Munhall.

Firefighters were called to the apartment complex on Longfellow Drive around 9 a.m.

Fire investigators said they believe the blaze began in a storage space and said an electrical issue is to blame.

Several residents, who were seen carrying personal belongings and pets, were evacuated while crews worked to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.

“There’s a big hole at the top of the stairway, and there’s smoke damage to clothes and everything,” MaryAnn Csahok said.

Jeffrey Fillmore told Channel 11’s Katherine Amenta that he was forced out of his apartment.

“They’re not telling me anything. They’re just telling me there’s a lot of smoke and water damage right now,” Fillmore said.

Munhall Fire Chief Daniel Rojtas said a total of 15 people were affected by the blaze.

“Some will (be able to go back) and some won’t. We will have to wait and see who’s going to be displaced for the night,” Rojtas said.

The American Red Cross is assisting those who are unable to return to their apartments because of damage.
